I accept commissions for portraits of people, pets and houses in oil, pastel and watercolour. I also take commissions for paintings of still lives and landscapes or I can transform your favourite photo into a lasting and treasured work of art.
Commissioning a portrait or painting
- Firstly I will arrange a meeting with you either at your home or in my studio to discuss your requirements for the commission. It is helpful to decide where the portrait or painting will hang and we can then discuss size, setting and format along with specifics such as pose, clothing and framing options etc.
- I will bring my camera and lighting equipment and take a number of digital photographs of various poses and clothing options which we will review together at a later date or by email. I will then take a small deposit (this will be taken off the total price of the painting). Once the pose, setting and clothing are agreed I will start on the canvas painting or, if necessary, provide a sketch for further approval.
- I will schedule at least one live sitting for portraits of adults and older children as I prefer to work from life where I can, however, this may not always possible.
- I may need to arrange for additional sittings or further photo sessions, understanding that most people are usually very busy I will try to keep this to a minimum.
- Portraits can vary greatly in size, and complexity and depending on which medium is chosen (oil, watercolour or pastel) they can take anywhere between 30 days to 18 months to complete. Time-scales for each individual painting will be discussed in the initial stages. I will endeavour to keep you up to date with progress and a final meeting will be scheduled near to completion for any adjustments in preparation for final approval. Final payment will be required before delivery.
- Prices also vary greatly and start from as little as £80 for a small pastel painting to £2,000 or more for large full-length oils, therefore it is impossible to estimate a price before initial discussion of your requirements.
